Calling all parents: how would you feel if your child wasn’t allowed to fail in school? At first mention, the idea might not sound half-bad; after all, schoolwork is tougher for some kids than others.
Maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to even the playing field, right?
Well, it’s that very idea–and in this case, that very school policy— that has prompted a teacher to leave her teaching position. Read the full story here ▶
When you rush off to the hospital as a soon-to-be-father, you’re extremely excited about what is about to happen. A new baby is a blessing to everyone involved.
In this particular case, a man and his girlfriend were about to welcome not one, not two, but five babies to the world.
Barbara Bienvenue and Paul Servat were about to be the parents of quintuplets- or so Paul believed.
The pair met over the summer online. They had been dating for just two months when Barbara told Paul that he was going to be a father.
Paul then put all of his time and energy into making sure the baby would be taken care of.
However, he didn’t expect what was about to happen.
Barbara first told Paul that she was carrying twins. She then increased the number until she was telling everyone that she was carrying quintuplets.
Paul was still very positive about the pregnancy even though five babies would be more than a handful.
They picked out the names of their future babies and told everyone they knew.
The local news got wind of the story and soon the whole community flocked together to help the couple.
Many people were eager to help out the pair by donating baby items. The couple was even given five separate cribs for the babies to use once they came home.
When it was time for the babies to arrive, Paul brought Barbara to the hospital.
However, he was about to receive the shock of his life!
Not only was his girlfriend not carrying quintuplets, she had never even been pregnant.
A nurse pulled Paul to the side to tell him that blood tests confirmed his girlfriend was not pregnant, nor had she ever been.
Barbara was experiencing what is known as a “phantom pregnancy,” or pseudocyesis.
This is a psychological condition in which signs and symptoms of pregnancy can appear in a woman who is not actually pregnant.
The body can secrete pregnancy hormones that can even cause physical changes, including a distended abdomen and lactation. This was the case for Paul’s girlfriend.
Barbara is currently undergoing psychiatric treatment for her condition. She has released a statement saying that she will return all of the baby items that were given to her.
We hope she gets the treatment that she needs, and we also hope Paul gets to be a real father someday.
According to the court documents, the 27-year-old dad, Joshua, put his 4-year-old stepson in a bathtub of near-boiling hot water.
Prosecutors said the child suffered burns over more than one-third of his body. The stepfather admitted to burning the little boy and was sentenced to 40 years in a state correctional facility.
The 27-year-old defendant pleaded guilty to injury to a child with intent to cause serious bodily injury. He also pleaded to a sentencing enhancement based on previous convictions on charges of se-ual assault and burglary of a habitation.
According to the court documents, this unfortunate incident occurred on May 26, 2022. Child Protective Services contacted the Sheriff’s Department regarding a 4-year-old boy who had been brought to a hospital to treat severe burns. The boy, who was not identified due to his age, was admitted to the hospital, intubated, and placed on a ventilator due to his injuries. Authorities said he required multiple surgeries and skin grafts due to the burns. Hospital staff told authorities that the 4-year-old boy suffered burns over more than one-third of his body. According to the doctors, the burns included the entirety of both of his legs, feet, and buttocks, as well as a portion of his right arm. The doctor also noted that most of the burns sustained by the child were third-degree burns that were likely the result of forceful immersion.
During an interview with investigators, the victim’s mom reportedly said that when she arrived home from work, her son was wrapped in a towel that hid his injuries. When she removed his towel and revealed the victim’s injuries, she immediately Joshua to call 911 and the child was transported to the hospital. During an interview with investigators, the 27-year-old stepfather blamed the 4-year-old, claiming the boy sustained the burns when he bumped into the stove, accidentally spilling a pot of hot water on himself.
But, the boy’s babysitter reportedly told investigators that while the mother was out, the boy went to the bathroom. The babysitter then told Joshua to clean the boy. Joshua then undressed the little boy, ran a hot bath and went into the bathroom with the child. Joshua then left the child and went to play video games. The 27-year-old stepfather then returned to the bathroom and yelled at the boy, while the 4-year-old victim was crying. Hospital staff told investigators that the boy’s injuries were likely the result of him being held down in the dangerously hot water by force.

Tommy O’Connor walked across the street from his high school to get himself and his brother a soda at the 7-11. In the parking lot, he came across a wallet and inside the wallet were several $100 bills.
$2,300 to be exact. The young man immediately brought it back to his school to give to a teacher’s aide, who was able to get the wallet back to the rightful owner.
The then 24-year-old mom, Laura, said that doctors told her to consider an abortion after irregularities in scans caused professionals to worry the youngster had inherited a deadly combination of genes.
But Laura, who suffered complications throughout the pregnancy, ignored advice and decided to carry on with the pregnancy. She was then told that both her and the baby would need special care after birth – if he survived.
The mother prepared herself for the prospect of not seeing her newborn baby for four days after having a c-section. But she was amazed when she woke from the operation to find her fiance sat at her bedside – with the newborn by his side.
Laura, who has appeared in a number of films and theatre shows, said: “I was having scans once a week because they were a little worried there could be complications.
“It wasn’t until 24/25 weeks that things started changing. “They noticed that his measurements weren’t quite what they should be. “They thought that he had inherited two rare genes that could have been dangerous. “I was told to consider abortion and told that if he had these genes he would probably die within half an hour of birth. “I didn’t even think about abortion at any point – I don’t believe in abortion. I could feel him moving around inside me – he was a little wriggler. In my head everything was fine.
“When I went down to theatre to have him I was so worried – they had been very cautious with us and said that there was a high chance we would need special care after he was born and that I might not see him for four days. “When I woke up Nathan was stood next to me with little Nathan in a cot. I couldn’t believe it – I just cried.” Laura, who is the only dwarf in her family, suffers from achondroplasia – meaning she has shortened limbs as well as a curvature of the spine – causing serious pain. Nathan has a different form of dwarfism – pseudoachondroplasia, which means his bone growth is stinted, causing weak hips. Experts fear that baby Nathan may inherit back and hip problems due to having both strands of dwarfism, but it is not yet known if he will suffer from either.
His mother said that she hopes Nathan will be able to live a normal life, much like herself, despite his condition. She added that whilst she was sure Nathan was the only person in the UK to become a double dwarf, the condition had been heard of elsewhere in the world. She said: “Nathan has inherited both forms of dwarfism and is therefore a double dwarf. Laura and Nathan met whilst performing in pantomime on the Channel 4 documentary – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The pair got engaged and Laura fell pregnant, though they had not been trying for a baby. Despite the new arrival delaying marriage plans, the couple hope to tie the knot later this year or early next year. Though they are not quite sure what is in store with baby Nathan they say they will remain patient in the hope he will lead a life as enjoyable as theirs.
