An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house-building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family.

He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.

The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.

When the carpenter finished his work the employer came to inspect the house. He handed the front door key to the carpenter. “This is your house,” he said, “my gift to you.”

The carpenter was shocked! What s shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently.
So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into the building. Then with a shock, we realize we have to live in the house we have built. If we could do it over, we’d do it much differently.

But we cannot go back. You are the carpenter. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. “Life is a do-it-yourself project,” someone has said. Your attitudes and choices you make today, build the “house” you live in tomorrow. Build wisely!

This man, Timothy W. from Washington, allegedly set his trailer-home on fire while his wife and three children were sleeping inside. Timothy is facing a several criminal charges while the investigation is still undergoing.

After extinguishing the trailer fire, firefighters discovered the bodies of a 34-year mother and her three young children. The children were only 9, 6 and 5 years old.

Timothy has been taken into custody for his alleged role in the mobile home blaze, charged with one count of first-degree arson and four counts of first-degree murder. Read the full story here ▶

Three 15-year-old boys in Colorado are in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old during a carjacking, authorities said.

On the evening of Jan. 20, Nasier Graham, a high school student, was shot and killed in an apartment complex parking lot in Loveland and his vehicle was stolen.

“We’re not aware of any specific link between the suspects and victim,” Police Chief Tim Doran told KDVR. “So, it was random, senseless murder.”

Police said the three 15-year-old boys in the case then got into the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene.

Minutes later, police said, the suspects got into a collision with a 16-year-old boy, who they allegedly shot.

That victim was hospitalized and was listed in stable condition.

On Jan. 31, police arrested the first suspect and the second suspect was taken into custody two days later. Both were charged with multiple counts, including murder, attempted murder, assault, aggravated robbery, vehicle theft, and weapons possession. The third boy was arrested on Feb. 5 and charges are pending, officials said.

“Nas was not just some anybody. He was loved by his family, his friends, his coworkers, his school members and his coaches, and we looked forward to seeing him get married, have children, do what all teenagers do,” family spokesperson Okema Bassett said, KDVR reported.

Bassett added: “We are just sad and broken and we look forward to the conviction of these three criminals. We’ll see you at court.”

Father from Florida was arrested after he allegedly threw his 5-year-old son in the rough ocean to teach him how to swim. According to police reports, J. Bloodsworth was doing backflips at the time and it was intoxicated when the police arrived.

Police officer got a tip about an intoxicated man at the local pier by a former Georgia state trooper who was on vacation with his family.

He and his family watched the man allegedly throw his son into the ocean, yell at him to swim and then proceed to leave him unattended while he jumped off the pier into the water. Read the full story here ▶

At only four months old, the little girl was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. The doctors discovered the disease after it had spread to almost every part of her body.

From the diagnosis followed 15 months of grueling treatment involving chemotherapy, stem cell transplants and several rounds of radiation. Molly was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, which, according to the health officials, is a type of cancer that manifests from immature nerve cells found in various parts of the body (particularly around the adrenal glands which sit atop the kidneys).

The cancerous cells can also develop around the abdomen area, chest, neck and spine. As for Molly, her family recounts spending nearly 130 nights in the hospital while she underwent a series of cancer treatments. Read the full story here ▶

Five students at the University of Texas (UT) lost their scholarships because they kneeled during the national anthem to protest racial injustice. This caused a lot of debate.

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick started the kneeling protest in 2016. It has since become a strong way to fight against racism and police brutality. The UT players joined a larger movement that was calling for justice for groups that were being ignored.

The emergency call resulted in the 8-months-along pregnant mother behind bars and her three children clinging to life.

Unfortunately, this little girl, Adie, reportedly spent much of her childhood at the hospital, either undergoing surgery, recovering or going through physical therapy.

She was born with Larsen syndrome, which has resulted in the incorrect development of her skeletal system. During an interview, her parents said that Adie’s legs were somewhat backward when she was born and doctors feared she may never walk again.

The poor girl required a total of four surgeries and around 65 casts to fix her legs enough to walk. Now Adie can run and play just like everyone else, all thanks to the treatment from this hospital.

One day, Adie decided to hold a sign and ask for donations for the same exact hospital. According to her parents, it was a birthday wish from this kind and generous little girl. She owes a lot to the hospital as it turns out and just wants to return the favor.

“I just hold a sign that says, ‘For my birthday wish, I want to raise $8,000 for the TSR Hospital,’” she told local news station WFAA. Once they published her story, it quickly went viral. The coverage just kept appearing all over the internet and soon her dreams of $8,000 became far too conservative. Soon, her campaign to raise money for the place that helped her reached almost $20,000! That was a huge number and far more than she ever expected, but the amazing nature of her story was just beginning to appear.

Addie received a letter from a donor praising her efforts, along with a check for a total of $50,000 to help out more kids that need medical help just like Adie did. According to the child’s parents, the 3-year-old girl was about to be taken off life support when she suddenly made a remarkable recovery.

The young girl was seriously injured in a car crash while returning home from shopping with her family. Her mother, father, and newborn brother were also in the car at the time, but they sustained only minor injuries.
