While walking down the road, a homeless man from Washington spotted brown bag on the ground with $17,000 cash in it. And while we know what most of the people would have done in his situation, what he did left everyone in the city speechless.

While Jerry Backposh was looking for the bread that is left outside the building for people to take, he spotted the bag on the ground. He couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the cash in the bag.

Jerry took the bag and rushed in front of the local Community Food Bank and waited more than 20 minutes to open. Then he gave the bag to a volunteer who opened the door for him. Read the full story here ▶

Stranded Teen Picked Up By Cop To Stay Warm After Delayed Train, Realizes He’s Driving Out Of Town

0

When teenager Kori Malenfant and her parents took a trip to New York for her surgery, they didn’t expect to be on the receiving end of such compassion and understanding.

The family’s visit to New York wasn’t for fun – it was to receive life-saving treatment for Kori’s Chiari malformation at the Presbyterian Hospital.

In simple terms, this is a crack or opening that is in the skull which can then lead to the brain becoming dislodged and moving into the spinal canal.

It can be treated, but only with surgery – and that’s what the family was there for.

Kori’s surgery was a success, so she and her parents were ready to go back to Portland in Maine.

After four days of resting, they packed up and went to catch their train.

They hopped on board an Amtrak train in New York, but the train was slowed by the bad weather, causing them to miss their connecting train from Boston.

The next train would arrive in 2.5 hours, which would be fine if not for the freezing conditions.

It was a very cold winter night, and Kori’s family knew they needed to find a warm place to rest up – somewhere that Kori could rest her neck and have it supported.

First, though, they had to put their bags somewhere safe.

That’s when they spotted a group of police officers nearby, and they asked if they could help them to stow their bags so they would not be burdened when finding a warm place to camp out by taxi.

But the officers weren’t just going to let them walk away.

They rang up their captain, Captain Kelley J. McCormick, and he soon arrived to speak to them.

McCormick heard the issue they were facing and told them to get into his vehicle so he could help them out.

The family agreed, gratefully, thinking that he would be taking them somewhere just a short distance away to wait it out.

But then they noticed that they were driving for quite a long time.

Kori’s mother asked what was going on, and McCormick laughed and joked that he was legally kidnapping them.

That’s when it dawned on the family – he was bringing them all the way back to Portland!

He explained that he simply could not allow Kori to be out in the cold right after a procedure like what she had gone through, and he was happy to drive them home.

The family was shocked.

They couldn’t believe that McCormick could be so kind to them.

As they talked, they found out more about the man and learned he was one of the main commanders who had been on duty during the bombing at the Boston Marathon not too long ago.

When the Boston Police Superintendent-in-Chief found out about McCormick’s actions, he wasn’t at all taken aback.

He says that McCormick is the kind of person who always gives and gives.

That was definitely apparent to Kori’s family, who simply couldn’t thank him enough.

A Ukrainian volunteer dies as she was delivering supplies to a dog shelter that was without food for 3 days

0

Here’s another unfortunate and heartbreaking story that has manifested from the current Ukraine-Russia conflict.

A dog shelter outside of the Ukraine capital of Kyiv was out of food for three days. So, a bunch of generous volunteers chose to stay back and help, despite the area being under Russian fire. 26 year old Anastasiia Yalanskaya and two friends delivered food to the hungry pups but were tragically shot and killed.

A Russian military vehicle opened fire on the car at close range, killing all three friends who were there to help the animals, according to The Kyiv Independent.

“I asked her to be extra cautious. That nowadays, a mistake costs extremely much,” Yalanskaya’s husband, Yevhen Yalanskyi, told Canada’s Global News. “But she was helping everyone around,” Yalanskyi told the outlet.

“I asked her to think of evacuation but she did not listen.” A friend of another victim told the Independent: “The car was [obviously] civilian. [She] was wearing a hat with a pom-pom. They didn’t look like the military at all.” The 26-year-old Ukrainian woman’s friends and family believe that her car was deliberately targeted at close range by Russian troops. Civilians are being killed at random as a way to scare the population into submission, according to the animal lover’s friends.

Yalanskaya reportedly wrote on her Telegram account about helping 40 kindergarten children who had no food or diapers. The job recruiter had been updating a daily blog on Telegram. “We are not scared. We are united like never before. We help each other,” she wrote. “We stand for hours at roadblocks and thank those who protect us. We will win.” On February 26, after having spent the night sleeping in a parking garage due to bombing fears, she said: “Now I realize even better how important it is to be able to just see the loved ones whenever you want. We will all be together soon, safe and at peace. I believe in it.”

Her husband, who is currently in Sri Lanka, is heartbroken. The pair were separated but remained close. “Not being able to help her last journey is very painful for me,” Yalanskyi told Global News. “She was one of the best human beings I knew. She was committed to help, to help her friends and relatives and whoever needed help,” he shared. “She loved animals. We had a dog and a cat. She was the best partner I ever had.”

Please share this story on Facebook. May she rest in peace.

Teen Famous For Surviving Shotgun Accident Removes Mask To Show Infant Son Her New Face

0

Chrissy Steltz’s decision to be a co-host at a house party during the spring break season of March 1999, she had no idea that this choice would lead to the loss of her face.

She and her friends were drinking when she called friends back to a room where she kept orange juice to see if they wanted any.

Inside the room, a guest noticed that there was a shotgun and picked it up.

Steltz, then 16, warned him to put it down, but he insisted it wasn’t loaded – and within a few moments, he was proved wrong.

Steltz was shot by the guest on accident, right at point-blank range in her face.

Her then-boyfriend, Will O’Brien, was horrified when he came upon her state a short while later and had her rushed to a hospital.

Surgeons were able to save Steltz’s life, but the gunshot had taken out around 3/4 of her face, and they hadn’t been able to save her eyes or her nose.

Steltz also sustained some degree of brain damage.

According to one of the operating surgeons, Dr. Eric Dierks, he’d never seen someone suffer this much damage and live to tell the tale.

Steltz was in a drug-induced coma for six weeks before she awoke.

When O’Brien explained what had happened to her and how she would likely never be able to smell or see again, her world turned upside down.

But, being the strong person she is, she knew that her two options were to learn what to do and how to carry on, or to sit around, mope and throw a pity party – and she definitely didn’t want to do the latter!

Steltz put on a black sleeping mask that covered her injuries wherever she went.

Slowly, she learned braille and figured out how to use a cane, and continued studying at her high school.

She finished her studies with straight As and even went to prom!

Shortly after, Steltz’s relationship with O’Brien ended, but she then met someone new in her classes for the blind – a man who had lost his sight when he was 16 because of an illness.

His name was Geoffrey Dilger, and he and Steltz hit it off immediately.

Flash forward seven years, and they’re a long-standing couple with a son!

They’ve traveled all around the world, too!

Then, in 2010, a prosthetic face was made for Steltz.

Using pictures of her 16-year-old self, maxillofacial prosthodontists created a prosthetic that would fit with the rest of her own face.

The doctors behind this creation were Dr. Larry Over and Dr. David Trainer.

Using a mold of her face and some silicone, the prosthetic was brought to life, complete with makeup details that were baked onto it.

A team of doctors then worked on removing damaged tissue, creating dental implants, and making a breathing passage through it.

They even used skin grafts and bones from Steltz to make the prosthetic easy to remove and attach, with some extra help from metal plates and screws.

The first time Steltz had her face put on, her entire family came to the hospital to see how she’d look.

Ezoic

Tears of joy filled the room as they saw Steltz face for the first time in a long time!

It was the first time Steltz’s son saw her face, too, and he definitely didn’t mind!

She now feels much less self-conscious about her appearance, and although she can feel people staring at her sometimes when she’s outside, she’s glad that it’s her face they’re staring at – not her sleeping mask.

Steltz has been through a lot over the last 19 years, but her positivity and strength are incredible and has helped her through a lot of these hard times!

She also says she doesn’t want people to feel sorry for her, as she’s not sorry for herself: she’s lived well, and she would rather people were proud of her for her achievements.
