A 76-year-old former Navy man committed suicide in the parking lot of a New York VA hospital where he was allegedly denied care.

This has raised new questions about the federal agency, and his family and friends hope his death won’t be in vain.

Peter A. Kaisen, 76, of Islip, shot and killed himself outside the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he had been a patient.

Sources told The New York Times that before taking his life, Kaisen was upset because the VA hospital would not allow him to see an emergency-room physician for a mental health condition. Read the full story here ▶

After being arrested for giving birth to a heroin-addicted baby, an Alabama woman is under arrest again after authorities discovered she was pregnant a second time.

Alexandra Nicole Laird, 21, of Pleasant Grove, Alabama, was indicted earlier in 2016 after her newborn baby was discovered by doctors to be addicted to heroin, reports AL.com. Laird is pregnant again and back behind bars on another child endangerment charge.

A Texas mother is being held on a $3 million bond for what must be the most cruel punishment ever imposed on children.

Last week, police arrested Sara Anne Woody, 24, of Burkburnett, Texas. She faces a total of 30 criminal charges that include 27 counts of injury to a child and two charges of witness tampering.

According to the Wichita Falls Times Record News, Woody is accused of making the boys, 7 and 12, lick filthy toilet rims as punishment when she believed they are lying to her.
