Have you ever looked at your child and wondered how they can be so amazing? Some children are just wise beyond their years.

Leland Shoemake was one of those children. Sadly, he died on September 25, 2015. He has contracted meningitis from an ameba (Balamuthia mandrillaris). Amber, Leland’s mom, believes he got the deadly infection playing outside.

After Leland had passed, his parents returned home and found the note he had left for them. The note was in the living room and Tim, Leland’s dad, found it. The moment he read the note, he cried. Here is the note – read it, and you will cry too.

Leland was known for leaving little notes for his parents, this one was clearly very different.

Amber and Tim held onto each other and cried after reading their son’s note. Balamuthia infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is a rare and often fatal condition. The Balamuthia amebas live in the soil. Playing in dirt, gardening, or just breathing in the soil where the amebas live increases your chance of infection.

No one is immune – these amebas can infect anyone. Any open wound can be a way into the body. Some symptoms of infection include nausea, vomiting, headaches, difficulty walking and talking. The treatment is the use of several drugs. According to the CDC, the correct diagnosis is made just before the patient dies.

This makes it hard for doctors to find the right combination of drugs to treat it properly.

The Leland Shoemake Foundation was set up to spread awareness about this deadly ameba. Please spread the word.

Gravity people – you fire a bullet up into the air, and it will fall back to the earth.

The Hammond Police Department urged people to only use legal fireworks on the Fourth of July for the safety of everyone in the area.

“Easy” riddle found outside of local restaurant has the internet goes crazy

0

If there’s one thing that will put you into a rage, yet offer the promise of so much satisfaction, is a good riddle.

If you’re like me, you have spent hours mulling over a good riddle, testing different answers, seeing if they fit. More times than not, I’m driven to the brink of madness long before I get the right answer.

Of course, as with all things in life, sometimes stepping back and trying to see things from a different perspective can be all that’s needed to bring about success and, as a result, harmony.

Case in point, this brain teaser that was written on a sign outside of a café.

A passerby named Lacey Read-Cue snapped a photo of the sign and posted it to social media with the caption “This really screwed with my head.”

As would become patently obvious rather quickly, Lacey wasn’t the only one driven to irritation and confusion.

Before she knew it, her photo had gone viral, garnering hundreds of thousands of shares and over 85,000 reactions in a short space of time.

Comments flooded in from people trying to guess the answer, with almost every single one of them completely and terrifically wrong.

What is the answer to the question? Well, if you’re looking for a straight forward answer then you should probably take a look, because the sign has no question, as a result of having no question mark. That means it has no ‘answer’, at least not how you’re probably imagining.

Re-read the sign with a keener eye and you’ll see that it isn’t presenting a riddle at all … rather, it’s presenting a simple set of statements.

‘What’ has 4 letters (this is true).

‘Sometimes’ has 9 letters (also true).

‘But’ never has 5 letters (again, true).

If you’ve come this far you’ll likely either be cursing yourself for jumping the gun or cursing the sign for being so pointlessly frustrating. Relax, take a breather … it’s just a bit of fun!

You have to share this story to the riddle keeps going round and finds it way to others!

Officers Break Into Home, Kill Dog, Shoot Each Other – Then Realize They Made A Terrible Mistake

0

Almost four months after a botched police raid left a homeowner and a police officer with gunshot wounds — and the homeowner’s dog dead at the hands of the police — the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office hasn’t released any new information on the investigation.

The case drew widespread condemnation and headlines when DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies walked into the wrong house, guns drawn, after getting a 911 call about a burglary.

Inside, 36-year-old homeowner Chris McKinley was watching a movie with his wife, Leah, and 1-year-old son when police entered through an unlocked back door, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Police claim they announced themselves, but in interviews afterward, McKinley said the deputies did not give any warning. When McKinley heard his dog barking, he got up to see what was happening and walked to the rear of the house, where police shot him and his dog, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“I hear Leah screaming, I see Chris walking out, ‘They just shot me, they just shot me, and they killed my dog,’” Tama Colson, a neighbor who was returning home from an evening walk when she stumbled into the chaotic scene, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
For their part, police blamed the original 911 caller and the dispatcher for the incident.

“Are we perfect?” DeKalb Director of Public Safety Cedric Alexander asked, reports the Journal-Constitution. “Absolutely not. But when we find a mistake, we own it. We own the fact that we were at the wrong house. We didn’t hide it. We didn’t mismanage it. We were at the wrong location based on information that was given to us.”

In the initial police version of events, McKinley “burst out of a closed door with a pit bull that charged at the officers,” according to a police report cited by WSB-TV.

McKinley’s attorney, Jeff Brickman, flatly denied the police report, which was written in language that seemed to absolve the deputies from any wrongdoing. The dog was a boxer, Brickman told WSB-TV.

“Chris McKinley didn’t burst out of any closed door,” Brickman said. “He doesn’t have a pit bull.”

McKinley was shot once in the leg, while Officer Travis Jones was shot in the hip.

Since the incident, Jones and his two fellow officers — Timothy Hardin and Quhanna Lloyd — have been on paid administrative leave.

Authorities urged calm in interviews with Atlanta-area media in September and October, asking the public to withhold judgment until the investigation is complete, but DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James has not issued any new information on the case, as of Dec. 14, nor has he given any indication when the investigation will be completed.

Malia Obama, 25, debuts new name as she begins Hollywood career

0

Malia Obama, daughter of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, has reached adulthood and is carving out a new path for herself, even choosing to change her name.

The 25-year-old recently unveiled her directorial debut, “The Heart,” at the Sundance Film Festival.

Notably, the film’s credits omitted her family surname.

Born Malia Ann Obama on July 4, 1998, her middle name honors her paternal grandmother, who passed away from ovarian cancer at 52 in 1995. Growing up in the spotlight as the President’s daughter and graduating from Harvard, Malia has ventured into screenwriting.

In her latest project, “The Heart,” where Malia serves as director and screenwriter, she opted for the pseudonym Malia Ann. Making a memorable appearance on the festival’s red carpet earlier this year, Malia celebrated the premiere of her movie.

However, this isn’t Malia’s first step into the film industry. In 2021, she contributed to the writing team for the series “Swarm,” which later streamed on Amazon Prime. With acclaimed cast members like Billie Eilish and Rory Culkin, “Swarm” marked a promising start to her professional journey.

“Some of her pitches were incredibly creative and hilarious. She’s an exceptional writer,” shared “Swarm” co-creator Janine Nabers with E! Online, praising Malia’s talent. “She brought a lot to the table… She’s truly dedicated to her craft.”

Despite her high-profile background, executive producer Stephen Glover emphasized that Malia received the same treatment as other members of the creative team.

“We can’t go easy on her just because she’s the [former] President’s daughter,” he told Vanity Fair. “But she’s very down-to-earth and cool. So, it’s not a problem at all.”

Proud parents Barack and Michelle Obama have publicly expressed their pride in Malia, sending her warm birthday wishes on her recent 25th birthday.

“Happy birthday to this talented, funny, and beautiful young woman,” wrote Barack on Instagram. “Malia, I hope 25 brings you everything you’re seeking and more.”

Michelle echoed her husband’s sentiments, posting: “Happy birthday, Malia! I feel incredibly fortunate to be your mom and to witness your journey into the remarkable young woman you are today. Love you immensely!”

From Malia Obama to Malia Ann, from being the President’s daughter to emerging as a budding Hollywood screenwriter and director, it’s evident that a bright future awaits!

Planning to use the inheritance for her education, she faced opposition from her mother, who felt entitled to the money due to past expenses.

Taking Legal Steps Amidst Financial Misdeeds

As her mother refused to release the inheritance, the daughter resorted to legal measures, uncovering a history of financial mismanagement and theft within their relationship. She revealed that her mother had taken around $125,000 from her, including the inheritance, since she was 13.

Confrontation and Mixed Reactions

Confronting her mother with proof of the financial discrepancies, the daughter encountered justifications for the actions, including claims of high medical expenses. Despite this, she remained firm, considering legal action and seeking guidance on online forums.

Community Advice and Emotional Turmoil

Online responses varied, with some sympathizing with the daughter and emphasizing the responsibilities of a parent, while others suggested legal counsel to deal with the complicated financial situation.

This case highlights the difficult emotional and financial journey the young woman faces, as she navigates the delicate balance between seeking justice and dealing with the emotional impact of familial betrayal.
