Former President Donald Trump on Saturday requested his former commerce adviser Peter Navarro to maintain mum and “protect executive privilege” within the investigation by the “Communist Democrats” into his administration’s dealing with of the coronavirus disaster.
Navarro, former director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, was subpoenaed Thursday by the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis chaired by Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.). The committee is trying into the Trump administration’s response to the lethal COVID-19 surge final year, months after Trump vowed it might rapidly vanish.
“I’m telling Peter Navarro to protect executive privilege and not let these unhinged Democrats discredit our great accomplishments,” Trump stated in an announcement posted Saturday by aide Liz Harrington on her Twitter account. (Trump has been banned from Twitter.)
Trump known as his administration’s response to COVID-19 “unprecedented and incredible,” despite the fact that more than 400,000 Americans died on his watch from the sickness.
Navarro’s subpoena calls for that he seem for a deposition Dec. 1 and hand over paperwork related to the coronavirus response by Dec. 8, Bloomberg reported.

Navarro ceaselessly spouted lies in regards to the coronavirus and the administration. He insisted Trump’s calls for to gradual testing so COVID-19 circumstances wouldn’t look so dangerous had been “tongue in cheek.” He has baselessly known as the pandemic a “product of the Chinese Communist Party.”
Navarro was named in an investigative government report earlier this month as one among no less than 13 Trump aides and officers who openly violated the Hatch Act, which bars federal staff from utilizing their authorities positions to affect elections.
Navarro spent time campaigning for Trump on the taxpayer’s dime whereas he was presupposed to be serving the general public doing authorities work, an earlier report concluded.
He already seems to have thumbed his nostril on the House committee in a tweet.
