Police said an 18-year-old suspect has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a University of Wyoming football recruit.
Keywash Ivanta Harris was busted on Sunday at Lancaster High School in Texas on charges of murder in the murder of Tony Evans Jr.’s 17-year-old Standing Senior receiver, who was gunned down by police at a hotel in Dallas. Said in a statement.
Police said investigators took Harris into custody, who determined he was responsible for killing Evans inside Room 221 in a Hawthorne suit early Sunday, police said.
Investigators have not announced what led to the fatal encounter. Another person was also shot during the incident, Dallas Morning News reports.
Both victims were rushed to the hospital, where Evans was pronounced dead.
The newspaper reported on Thursday that the second victim, who has not been publicly identified, was in stable condition.
Eyewitnesses have reported the shooting taking place during a party inside the hotel room, according to the newspaper.
Evans’ mother, Aretha Evans, said her son was a devout Christian, set to succeed on the college gridiron with the intention of playing for the Wyoming Cowboys in February.
Evans, a Lancaster native, caught 13 catches for 268 yards and four touchdowns at Lancaster High School last season.
“He wanted everything,” Evans’ friend Rodney Hudson told the Morning News. “And he was going for a breakout season. This is what he did. He did whatever he told me. “
UW head football coach Craig Bohl said the program was “very tragic” to learn of Evans’ death. According to Morning News, Bohl said he plans to travel to Dallas for the funeral of the late teenager.
“We hope to bury our parents; “We just don’t expect to bury our children,” Bohl said at a press conference on Wednesday. “Violent loss of life, it should not have happened. Unfortunately, it is a part of our society right now. “
Harris remained in the Dallas County Jail on a $ 500,000 bail early Friday. It is unclear whether he hired a lawyer who could comment on that face.
A message from Dallas police seeking additional comment did not immediately return early Friday.
