Patriots Get Ready For Matchup Against Eagles

The Patriots and Eagles are holding joint practices in Philadelphia ahead of Thursday night’s preseason game. All eyes are on the quarterback position. As people are speculating who will start Week 1 against the Dolphins. I’m still going with Cam Newton regardless of how he looks in the preseason and in training camp. Belichick is proving a point that he can win with Newton and last year was a fluke. What will we see Thursday night is the question? In my opinion, Newton should play a series before Jones takes the field for the majority of the game.

The practices so far have been pretty even between Newton and Jones. Neither quarterback really stood out in the joint sessions which only can mean one thing. Newton will be the starter in Week 1 to begin the season. Newton was with the first-team offensive line while Jones was with the second on the first day of practice. The second practice session was cut short which could mean the teams are just waiting for Thursday night.

Good to see Chase Winovich back on the field for the first time this camp. He was on the PUP list and had a rocky season last year. He also had some strange comments on Zolak and Bertrand last season on not understanding the game plans. Hopefully, he has a better grasp this year. Belichick spoke about Winovich today.

“Well, right now, man, Chase needs to just start to get his reps back on the field and we’ll bring him back,” Belichick said Tuesday. “He’s rehabbed, he’s been cleared to practice, he’s off the PUP, take it day by day and depending on what we’re doing that day and so forth, work him into areas that we feel like he’s ready for and obviously he needs to work in every area because he hasn’t done much. Let’s try to catch them up the best we can but you know, he’ll work hard and he’ll do what he can and we’ll just take it day by day.”

Overall I’m anxious to see how the game plays out on Thursday night. How much will we see Cam Newton and will Mac Jones show a little more than he did last week? I’d like Jones to play the entire game but I don’t think that is going to happen. Newton wants his reps too.
