According to the Associated Press, Wayne Sperling pleaded guilty to keeping his young children in a filthy home and faces up to seven years in prison when he is sentenced on December 30.

Last October, the boys, ages two and six, were removed from the home when an emergency room doctor suspected abuse after the youngest had to be transported to the hospital for a cut on his forehead.

Sperling, his wife and the boys lived in an apartment filled with cat feces and flies, authorities said. The children were malnourished and could only communicate in grunts when they were found. Read the full story here ▶

During a sleepover in the Bronx, New York a girl poured boiling water on the face and chest of another girl.

Jamoneisha Merritt, 11, had gone over to a friend’s house for a sleepover and got into an argument with another girl. The boiling water caused second-degree burns to Jamoneisha’s shoulders and face.

Jamoneisha was rushed to the hospital, and the 12-year-old girl who doused her with the water has been charged with assault. According to reports, Jamoneisha had been sleeping when the water was poured on her upper body. Read the full story here ▶

A Chicago high school has apologized after a school nurse hindered a student with a deadly peanut allergy from using an EpiPen.

Lonnie Joy and Shawn Sommer’s daughter, Lia, 15, was exposed to peanuts after eating a sandwich at the John Hersey High School cafeteria on Aug.

A mother in Arkansas picked her son up from daycare early after the center called to say he wouldn’t stop throwing up.

Since he was healthy when she dropped him off, she couldn’t understand what could have happened in just a few short hours of him being there.

After a 6-year-old boy failed to show up to school, police investigated the family’s Missouri home to discover the child alone and his parents dead after a suspected murder-suicide.

The parents, who were identified as James Delao, 50, and Kimberly Delao, 46.

Valley Park School District reportedly called police after the 6-year-old child did not show up for school. Upon the police’s arrival, the child opened the door, and the officers found both parents dead. Read the full story here ▶
