A driver heading down a treacherous wooded freeway spotted a little girl on the side of the road, barefoot and alone, flagging for help. They pulled over, and the desperate girl would lead them to a horrible scene that was far from where she was found.
Little 5-year-old Lexi Shymanski had gone with her mom Angela and baby brother Peter on a drive from their home in Prince George, British Columbia to Calgary. With soft lullaby music playing for her kids in the car, the mother nodded off at the wheel.
The family’s car careened off the road and plunged down a 40 foot cliff into the rocky terrain. The crash knocked Lexi out, and when she awoke, she saw her mother hunched over the wheel and her brother was crying, while she herself was covered in scratches. Read the full story here ▶
In order to try to save his siblings from going to a bad place opposite of heaven, a 14 year old killed them. The teen boy was 13 years of age when he killed his sister and his brother. He was charged with murder for this tragic situation.
In order to follow through this this horrible act, he grabbed a towel to suffocate his sister and then used a blanket in order to suffocate his brother.

A 10-year-old Brazilian girl complained of having a terrible stomachache in school.
She was rushed to the hospital in Belo Horizonte.
To everyone’s surprise (even the girl’s parents), she was pregnant.
The 10-year-old girl was seven months pregnant and in labor!

The girl delivered her baby without incident.
According to police chief Captain Castro, the girl’s mother claims that she didn’t notice her daughter was pregnant and blamed it on the girl’s small frame. Really?

Small frame or not, you would certainly have to recognize something was different with your daughter.
The girl later told her mother that it was her stepfather who had abused her. The stepfather was no longer living at the home.

Maybe the mother was in denial. The stepfather, 40, had also threatened to kill the girls’ mother and brother if she told anyone.
Two years earlier, the girl had become more introverted and started to have some troubles with her school work.

Her stepfather abused her for two years and then got her pregnant.
He was arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearms and rape of a child.

Young girls, like the one in this story, do not have a fully developed pelvis which puts them at risk for complications during childbirth.

Police officials said that the boys’ parents, Deonta and Shatia, were arrested and charged with child neglect and drug charges.
According to the statement, their 5-year-old son, who was not identified due to his age, reportedly took a gun and shot his 16-months-old baby brother. The baby died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Police officials later released a statement, stating that the 5-year-old boy who fatally shot his younger brother was high on cocaine, while the dead toddler had marijuana in his system, according to prosecutors. Read the full story here ▶

Prosecutors said the 26-year-old father, Brantly, was sentenced to 25 years in prison after he killed his newborn baby son.
During an interview with investigators, the dad reportedly said that he got mad, grabbed the child by his arms, shook him and threw him on the bed because his wife ‘just left him with the baby and he just snapped.’ Judge found the defendant guilty of abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death.

A Detroit mom frantically called 911 after her 8-month-old stopped breathing. Two EMT’s arrived in the vicinity of the residence, but they parked just under a mile short of the home, purposely not showing up to save the baby.
One responder refused to attend to the emergency, expressing a specific desire not to. The baby died as a result, while the medic sat in the car just a couple blocks away.
The child’s mother was desperate for help when she called, but when medics never showed, she took matters into her own hands and performed CPR on the baby, who was in cardiac arrest.
At some point, the child was revived but died at the hospital a short time later, once a separate ambulance showed up to do the job veteran medic Ann Marie Thomas told dispatchers she absolutely wouldn’t do.

According to WDIV, Thomas was sent to the scene, but she told the dispatcher she wasn’t going to do her job for no other reason than not wanting to perform CPR on the child. She blamed her insistence on it being too difficult to deal with the emotional family in distress, while having to potentially perform CPR on the infant for ten minutes.
Thomas and the EMS supervisor went back and forth about the issue on the radio, all while Thomas’ partner sat idly by in the passenger seat of the emergency vehicle that was supposed to be at the family’s home. Why that person didn’t get out of the vehicle and run to the home, which was reportedly just 0.9 miles (one street) from where they intentionally parked, is perplexing, when their job is to save lives.
The supervisor told Thomas, who was the lead paramedic on the call, “You’re going to have to make patient contact.”
She then told her boss, “I’m not about to be on no scene 10 minutes doing CPR, you know how these families get.”
Eventually, dispatchers got another ambulance to the home, but it was too late. The baby died the following morning, after arriving to the emergency room.
Although it’s unclear what Thomas meant by “how these families get,” there is a good chance she was referring to the type of families that live in the Detroit neighborhood she was called to. But as a veteran medic, she’s not new to the department, and certainly not Detroit, and if the citizens there made her feel uncomfortable, why wouldn’t she choose to work in a different city or state?
Luckily, she may never get the choice of this type of employment again for any area, as she was terminated from the Detroit Fire Department as a result of her refusal to follow through on an urgent call.
Her personal issues with a certain type of people and their potential behavior in a dramatic situation is what likely caused the baby to pay the ultimate price. Thomas had one job to do and so did her partner, who also acted as a coward and should face discipline for their negligence as well. Don’t pursue a career that means life or death for people who rely on you, if you aren’t prepared to show up for what you signed on to do.
