She has been married twice, is a mother and a grandmother, and is currently married to a man who is younger than her. Joy Behar is a co-host of the daytime talk show “The View,” where she has been part of the original panel since 1997, although she briefly left the show in the past years.
The comedian left the show in 2013 but came back in 2015. She actually felt glad to be fired at first because she was tired of the show. She couldn’t remember why she felt that way. The network didn’t even know why they let her go for two years, and she thought it was a silly decision.
Since then, Joy Behar has stayed on the popular daytime show, “The View,” and in an interview in October 2022, she said she has no plans to retire. She signed a contract extension and will be on the show for a while. Even at 81 years old, she’s still enjoying it and doesn’t want to leave.
Joy celebrated her 81st birthday on “The View”
During the episode, her co-host Ana Navarro said that she knows Behar does not like to talk about her birthday, while fellow host Sunny Hostin mentioned that she did not look excited. Behar chimed in, saying:
“I can’t get excited. I’m just glad I’m alive, okay? You know, you get to a point where you wake up in the morning and say, ‘I’m still here, my God’”
Having marked her birthday milestone, Behar celebrated her wedding anniversary with her second husband two months before. The Hollywood star is married to a retired school teacher, Steve Janowitz.
The couple wed in August 2011 after dating for nearly three decades. Behar and Janowitz donned coordinated outfits for their big day. She wore a black short-sleeved dress while he opted for a black suit paired with a bow tie and a white shirt underneath
After getting married, Behar appeared on “ABC News” the following month in September. During the interview, the “Love Is All There Is” actress was asked whether she felt like a bride, and she jokingly responded:
“Do I look like a brushing bride to you? It’s been 29 years.”
When Joy Behar was asked if she felt like she was in the honeymoon phase of her marriage, she said no. She felt like she had just done what she needed to do, which was marrying her love after being together for many years.
She was also asked to share the secret to being together with someone for a long time. According to her, they are not sensitive people, so whatever remarks they make when they are together, neither of them takes it to heart.
Behar further shared that Janowitz is a man with a good sense of humor and that the first year into their relationship, she did not tell him she was a comedian to avoid scaring him off. She said the way they see each other also counts. A year after getting hitched, Behar was asked in another interview why she and Janowitz waited so long before tying the knot. She said,
“We waited so long because I had been married before, and I didn’t really see the point.”
The actress from “Hall Pass” made a joke, saying, “We did it for the sex,” but then she explained seriously. As she gets older, she wants someone who will be there for her both emotionally and legally if something were to happen. Her husband, Steve Janowitz, is seven years younger than her, and they’ve been married for 12 years.
Joy Behar is not just a wife; she’s also a mother. She had a daughter named Eve Behar with her ex-husband, television director Joseph Behar. They were married from 1965 to 1981, and their daughter was born in November 1970.
Joy Behar, who is a mother and a grandmother, happily shared pictures of her daughter with her husband, Alphonso Scotti, and their son, Luca, when she appeared on “Anderson Live” in November 2011.
She couldn’t stop talking about her grandson, who was only eight months old then. She proudly described him as “brilliant” and said he was already quite talkative at such a young age.
Luca’s mom is an artist who creates unique handmade ceramics. In August 2023, she gave a peek into her art exhibition on Instagram, sharing a family photo. Luca, now a teenager, looked all grown up, sitting with his parents and grandparents who were smiling at the camera. There was also a solo photo of Luca with his beloved grandmother.
Eve, Luca’s mom, also posted pictures from the art event, showing the people who attended. She thanked the gallery for the opportunity and encouraged her followers to check out the show in Sag Harbor, a village in Long Island, New York, if they were interested.
