Cam Newton Opens Up On ESPN
The Patriots open training camp on July 28th. Not only does Belichick have a lot to prove so does Cam Newton. Newton knows he wasn’t good enough last year. Really, the excuses of COVID, no preseason, no weapons, are all true but everyone was going through COVID. Cam just happened to be the first quarterback to get it. Regardless, there is no excuse for Newton to have a down year and he even said that on ESPN Radio’s Keyshawn, JWill & Zubin show the other day. It’s all about winning games not what comes out of your mouth.
Newton opened up about what the Patriots’ experience has been like. He doesn’t talk back or have an attitude. He respects Belichick and Belichick respects Cam.
Cam Newton Is Honest Leading Up to Patriots Training Camp
“For me, the Patriots’ organization has been impeccable … my time there has been everything I could have asked for. I guess it’s now time for me to uphold my end of the bargain, through and through. “I don’t want to get so caught up in promises and things like that, but I can guarantee you that there’s been a shift in comfort of knowing more. And I think that’s added value in itself.
Cam views everything as a competition and doesn’t mind the Patriots selecting a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft.
“I’m just being honest with you. Me having this conversation in July is irrelevant. This is just going to be the clickbait for the next 24 to 48 hours — ‘This is how Cam feels.’ But truth be told, nothing is going to matter until July 22 [when he reports to the team],” he said.
“Then as training camp goes forward, everybody is going to start seeing, ‘What’s the work that’s been put in? Has he been in the playbook? Does he really understand? Is his comfort what he says it is? Is he in good shape? Is his shoulder holding up? Is his foot holding up?’
“We play in a sport that is strictly based off the final product. And the final product is on game days. With, it’s just going to come down to winning and losing.”
Many Patriots Headlines Leading Up to Training Camp
There are many questions leading up to training camp. But at the end of the day, he’s right it’s all about winning and losing. Especially when the former quarterback keeps winning in big moments for another team. Cam seeing Brady winning and playing injured will motivate him to play better in 2021.
