Apple obtained some of its MacGuide gross sales mojo again last quarter because of reductions on the MacGuide Air, based on the analysis agency Strategy Analytics. The company sold a record 6.5 million MacBooks in Q3 2021, up 10 p.c over last year — little question contributing to its blockbuster Mac quarter. Meanwhile, Chromebook gross sales truly declined for the primary time for the reason that pandemic began, IDC reported.

Laptop gross sales normally have been up eight p.c over last year to 66.8 million items, due largely to business and academic gross sales. That was aided partially by “higher discounts on premium products like MacBook Air and gaming notebooks,” based on Strategy Analytics

Sales might have been even greater if not for a scarcity of parts and better freight prices that drove costs greater and brought on some delays. Lenovo topped the gross sales record for the fourth quarter in a row with 15.3 million items shipped, with HP, Dell, Apple and ASUS rounding out the highest 5.

Chromebook and pill gross sales did not fare so effectively although, based on IDC. Chromebook gross sales tumbled by 29.8 p.c year-over-year to six.5 million items, thanks largely to “saturation” within the training market. “Many schools and governments blew out their budgets to provide devices for remote learning and even consumers aggressively purchased devices for learning in 2020,” the agency wrote. Lenovo once more topped the gross sales record for Chromebooks, adopted by Acer, Dell, HP and Samsung.

Tablet gross sales slowed 9.4 p.c to 42.3 million items, as a result of lowered demand and restricted provide. The exception to that pattern was Apple, which noticed iPad gross sales develop 4.6 p.c over last year to 14.7 million items. That dominated the class, as Samsung sold simply over half that number (7.5 million), adopted by Amazon, Lenovo and Huawei.
