About 3,500 sea turtles are rescued from the frigid temperatures in Texas.


Several animal species have been threatened by record-low temperatures in Texas this week, together with about 3,500 sea turtles that have been rescued and dropped at the relative security of dry land.

In chilly temperatures, turtles can fall sufferer to a situation known as a “cold stun,” when their physique temperatures fall so low that they lose their skill to swim, eat and even maintain their head above water.

“You could put a cold-stunned turtle in a half an inch of water and they’d drown,” stated Wendy Knight, the govt director of Sea Turtle Inc., a nonprofit group in South Padre Island, Texas, that’s serving to preserve the turtles protected till they will return to the water.

Turtles which were rescued by individuals on seashores or in boats are being placed on plastic-covered pallets and allowed to heat for a number of days in the South Padre Island Convention Center.
