Police officials said the mother, later identified as 32-year-old Jessica, was taken into custody and later charged with multiple charges, including: injury to a child, failure to report death and concealing or destroying evidence after investigators reportedly found her newborn baby’s remains into a suitcase. According to the statement, the suitcase was reportedly found hidden inside a doghouse.
Investigators later revealed that the newborn baby reportedly died shortly after her birth. The mother didn’t called 911 because she had a warrant out for her arrest and used drugs prior to giving birth, L&C reported. One of the witnesses reportedly told police that Jessica refused to go to the hospital because she had been using drugs throughout her pregnancy. One of Jessica’s female friends was also present for the birth of the baby, the witness said. Another witness reportedly told investigators that he had actually seen the child’s remains.
The second witness also said that he was cleaning up Jessica’s yard few months after she had given birth. He told police that he found a suitcase near the doghouse and when he opened the case, he said he saw a newborn’s body wrapped in plastic. Investigators executed a search warrant and found the carry-on suitcase in the doghouse. The responding officers reportedly found the baby’s remains and transported to the local morgue for an autopsy. Jessica’s friend, who was present during her delivery, reportedly told investigators that Jessica refused medical assistance while giving birth.
When the newborn was delivered, the baby’s father attempted to resuscitate the baby for about an hour after birth, but, unfortunately, the child died. The medical examiner performed toxicology tests on the baby and they came back positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. Investigators revealed that Jessica was worried about going to jail if she sought medical attention for her pregnancy. The father of the newborn baby was also charged. He was identified as 30-year-old Robert and later charged with failure to notify or delaying the notification of a death.
