LOS ANGELES — Three Los Angeles City Council members launched a movement Wednesday to create a Youth Development Department to tackle the excessive quantity of younger folks dwelling in poverty and being arrested in Los Angeles.

The metropolis’s youth packages are unfold throughout 26 departments with no centralized strategy, and the council members’ movement calls for the creation of one division to focus all of its resources on younger Angelenos.

The movement was launched by Councilman Kevin de Leon and Councilwomen Monica Rodriguez and Nithya Raman. According to the movement, of the 800,000 younger folks between the ages of 10 and 25 in Los Angeles, 200,000 of them live in poverty, and 3,000 are homeless.

The movement, if handed, will instruct the town lawyer to put together and current an ordinance to create a Youth Development Department. It will even have the chief legislative analyst and the town administrative officer seek the advice of with the Youth Development Task Force to outline the duties, tasks, objectives and aims of the brand new division.

To acquire funding, the movement instructs the chief legislative analyst to report again on steps to get a measure on the 2022 poll to fund youth programming managed by the division.
